Raheem Shaquille Sterling (born 8 December 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a winger for Premier League club Arsenal, on loan from Chelsea. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Sterling stands at 5 ft 8 in (1.72 m) tall.
Sterling began his career at Queens Park Rangers before signing for Liverpool in 2010. He was awarded the Golden Boy award in 2014. In July 2015, following a lengthy dispute over a new contract, he was signed by Manchester City in a transfer worth £49 million with add-ons, the highest transfer fee ever paid for an English player at the time. He went on to help Manchester City win back-to-back Premier League titles in the 2017–18 and 2018–19 seasons. In the 2018–19 season, he was named to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year and won the PFA Young Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year. He won two further Premier League titles with Manchester City in 2020–21 and 2021–22 before signing for Chelsea in July 2022.
Born in Jamaica, Sterling made his debut for the England senior team in November 2012 after previously being capped by England youth teams at under-16, under-17, under-19, and under-21 levels. He was chosen in England’s squads for the FIFA World Cup in 2014, 2018, and 2022, and the UEFA European Championship in 2016 and 2020.
Sterling started his youth career with Alpha & Omega in 1999 before moving to Queens Park Rangers in 2003. He joined Liverpool’s youth system in 2010, progressing through the ranks to make his senior debut in 2012. He made 95 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 18 goals, before moving to Manchester City in 2015, where he made 225 appearances and scored 91 goals. Sterling joined Chelsea in 2022, making 59 appearances and scoring 14 goals before being loaned to Arsenal in 2024, where he has made 11 appearances so far.
Internationally, Sterling represented England at various youth levels before making his senior debut in 2012. He earned 82 caps and scored 20 goals for England until 2022. Sterling’s accomplishments with the national team include being a runner-up in the 2020 UEFA European Championship and securing third place in the 2019 UEFA Nations League.
