Javier Zanetti, born on August 10, 1973, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a legendary footballer celebrated for his versatility, leadership, and longevity. Known as “El Tractor” for his tireless work ethic, Zanetti is regarded as one of the greatest right-backs and midfielders in football history.

Zanetti began his professional career in Argentina, playing for Talleres and later Banfield, where his performances caught the attention of European scouts. In 1995, he joined Inter Milan, marking the start of an extraordinary 19-year journey with the Italian club. Zanetti became a symbol of loyalty and consistency, making a record 858 appearances for Inter across all competitions. He captained the team from 2001 until his retirement in 2014, leading them to numerous triumphs, including five Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia trophies, and the historic treble in the 2009–10 season, which included the UEFA Champions League.

Internationally, Zanetti earned 145 caps for Argentina between 1994 and 2011, making him one of the most-capped players in the nation’s history. He represented Argentina in multiple FIFA World Cups and Copa América tournaments, reaching the finals of the latter in 2004 and 2007.

Off the pitch, Zanetti is admired for his humility and philanthropy. He founded the PUPI Foundation, which supports underprivileged children in Argentina. His contributions to football and society have earned him numerous accolades, including the Ambrogino d’Oro award from the city of Milan.

After retiring, Inter Milan retired his iconic number 4 jersey and appointed him as the club’s vice-president, a role he continues to hold.
