Pape Matar Sarr, born on September 14, 2002, is a Senegalese footballer who plays as a midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and the Senegal national team.
Club Career
- Metz: Sarr started his professional career with Génération Foot in Senegal before signing a five-year contract with Ligue 1 club Metz on September 15, 2020. Initially, he was sent to Metz’s second team in Championnat National 2 but was quickly recalled to the first team due to the COVID-19 pandemic in France. He made his first-team debut for Metz on November 29, 2020, against Brest and scored his first Ligue 1 goal in the reverse fixture on January 31, 2021, in a 4–2 away victory.
- Tottenham Hotspur: Sarr joined Tottenham Hotspur on August 27, 2021, and was loaned back to Metz for the remainder of the 2021–22 season. He made his long-awaited Premier League debut on January 1, 2023, coming on as an 80th-minute substitute in a 2–0 loss to Aston Villa. Since then, he has become a regular feature for Spurs, either starting or coming off the bench. He recorded his first goal contribution with an assist on May 28, 2023, in a 4–1 win against Leeds United and scored his first goal for Tottenham in a 2–0 victory against Manchester United on August 19, 2023. Following a series of impressive performances, Sarr extended his contract with Tottenham until 2030 on January 2, 2024.
