Rangers Football Club, founded in March 1872, is one of the most iconic and successful football clubs in the world. Based in Glasgow, Scotland, Rangers is the fourth-oldest football club in the country and has a storied history that spans over 150 years. The club was established by four young men—Moses McNeil, Peter McNeil, Peter Campbell, and William McBeath—who were inspired to create a football team while walking through West End Park.
Rangers played their first match in May 1872, a goalless draw against Callander. Internationally, Rangers made history by winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972, defeating Dynamo Moscow in the final. They have also reached the finals of other European competitions, including the UEFA Cup in 2008 and the UEFA Europa League in 2022.
The club’s rivalry with Celtic, known as the Old Firm, is one of the most intense and historic derbies in football. This rivalry extends beyond the pitch, reflecting cultural and social divides in Glasgow.
Despite facing financial challenges in the early 2010s, which led to their temporary relegation to the fourth tier of Scottish football, Rangers made a remarkable comeback, reclaiming the Scottish Premiership title in 2021. Today, Rangers remains a symbol of resilience, tradition, and success in the footballing world.
