Wayne Rooney, born on October 24, 1985, in Liverpool, England, is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of his generation. Known for his versatility, technical skill, and goal-scoring prowess, Rooney enjoyed a stellar career at both club and international levels.

Rooney began his professional career at Everton, making his debut in 2002 at the age of 16. During his two seasons with the club, he scored 15 goals in 67 appearances, including a memorable strike against Arsenal that announced his arrival on the big stage. In 2004, he transferred to Manchester United for £25.6 million, a record fee for a teenager at the time.

At Manchester United, Rooney became the club’s all-time leading scorer with 253 goals in 559 appearances. He won 16 major trophies with the club, including five Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, and one FA Cup. Rooney’s 208 Premier League goals make him the competition’s third-highest scorer of all time, and he also ranks fourth in assists with 103.

Internationally, Rooney earned 120 caps for England, scoring 53 goals, making him the nation’s all-time leading scorer until 2023. He represented England in three FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014) and three UEFA European Championships (2004, 2012, 2016). Rooney was named England Player of the Year four times (2008, 2009, 2014, 2015).

After leaving Manchester United in 2017, Rooney had stints with Everton, D.C. United in Major League Soccer, and Derby County, where he transitioned into a player-manager role. He retired from professional football in 2021 and has since pursued a managerial career, including roles at Derby County, D.C. United, and Plymouth Argyle.

Rooney’s playing style was characterized by his work ethic, vision, and ability to score from almost any position. Standing at 1.76 meters (5 feet 9 inches), he combined physicality with technical finesse. His accolades include being named PFA Players’ Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year in the 2009-2010 season.
